RR vs LSG IPL Highlights 2024: Nicholas Pooran (64) and KL Rahul (58) fifties went in vain as Rajasthan Royals bowlers held their nerves in death overs to seal a 20-run win. It was a clinical performance from Sandeep Sharma and Avesh Khan in the death overs to stop Rahul and Pooran. Rajasthan Royals kept taking wickets at regular intervals to unsettle the LSG batters in the tall chase. Trent Boult claimed a couple of early wickets to hurt LSG in the 194-run chase.

Earlier, Skipper Sanju Samson remained unbeaten on 82 as Rajasthan Royals managed to post a challenging total on the scoreboard - 193/4. Meanwhile, Riyan Parag also made a valuable 43-run contribution to set up the foundation of a big total. Rajasthan Royals lost their star openers Yashasi Jaiswal (24) and Jos Buttler (11) cheaply inside the powerplay as the onus shifted on skipper Sanju Samson to rebuild the innings. Rajasthan Royals skipper Sanju Samson won the toss and chose to bat first against Lucknow Super Giants at Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur. LSG handed their maiden cap to stylish batter Devdutt Padikkal who joined the franchise through a swap trade deal with the Royals.

One team a veteran, the other relatively new. Rajasthan Royals and Lucknow Super Giants play the first game of Sunday's double header, putting India teammates Sanju Samson and KL Rahul against each other. Rahul's much-awaited comeback remains the hot topic of discussion. Having last played in the first Test between India and England in Hyderabad, back in January end, Rahul has been out of action due to a quadriceps injury sustained during the game. Ever since, it's been a long grind for the India batter.

LSG, one of the two debutants in IPL 2022 have been consistent enough, but they've been overshadowed by Gujarat Titans, who played back-to-back finals. In the last two editions of the IPL, LSG finished third and made it to the Playoffs, only to lose the eliminator on both occasions. Last year, LSG was in the news for more than just cricket, as the infamous saga involving the trio of Gautam Gambhir, Naveen-ul-Haq and Virat Kohli blew out of proportion, but with all bad blood out of the way – Kohli and Naveen buried the hatched at the World Cup, it's a fresh start.

Besides captain Rahul, there's another change. The departure of Gambhir has brought in former Australia coach Justin Langer into the franchise and the belief is that his Aussie way is expected to rub off on the team in the best way possible. Even though it's an Indian-heavy squad, Langer the task-master has been heavily backed to break LSG's playoffs hoodoo. Their support staff list doesn't end there. Lance Klusener and Sridharan Sriram are assistant coaches, while Jonty Rhodes and Morne Morkel are going to be looking after fielding and bowling departments.

A glance through this LSG batting line-up promises to sweat out the bowlers. Quinton de Kock, the evergreen IPL star, and Devdutt Padikkal, who is coming off a memorable debut and was the standout star three years ago. Add to that the big-hitting duo of Nicholas Pooran and Marcus Stoinis, and this order can beat RCB and MI in terms of batting star power.

Dhruv Jurel, Rovman Powell and Riyan Parag are in form, and if that caps off the batting unit, their bowling line-up is pretty star-studded to say the least. Yuzvendra Chahal and Ravichandran Ashwin are the two primary spinners, and Trent Boult leads the pack in terms of pace attack. Prasidh Krishna may have been ruled out of the tournament, but Avesh Khan has been there and done that.

Lastly, Sanju Samson. The RR captain has time and again risen to the occasion and as the squad for the T20 World Cup is to be announced in May, both Samson and Rahul will be eager to put their cases forward. Samson has missed being part of India's previous two World Cup squads, but T20 is right up his alley. In January, Samson scored his maiden century for India in an ODI against South Africa, and while it was a different format altogether, a hundred in SENA nation doesn't go unnoticed.

Samson can face competition from Rahul for India's wicketkeeper spot in West Indies and the USA, along with Jitesh Sharma. In fact, it's a three-way fight. Rahul's fate in T20Is still hangs in the balance as barring Rohit Sharma, no one else, including Virat Kohli, is a guaranteed starter. So yeah, watch out the next couple of months, especially the performances of Rahul and Samson.

Below are a few pointers for the RR vs LSG IPL 2024 match:

- Jos Buttler and Yashasvi Jaiswal fail to fire in RR's first match of season

- Sanju Samson leads from the front with an unbeaten 82-run knock

- Riyan Parag shines at number 4 with a 43-run knock

- Economical spell by Krunal Pandya - 0/19 in his four overs
